WhatsApp Receives Major Update On macOS With Visual Customizations

WhatsApp for macOS is now receiving a major update that introduces extensive visual customization options, bringing it closer in appearance and functionality to the mobile versions of the app. According to WBI, the update adds 38 color combinations and 22 pre-defined visual styles, allowing users to personalize their chat interface in a variety of ways.

With this update, WhatsApp on Apple computers reaches feature parity with the iPhone version, giving macOS users the ability to modify not just the chat background, but also the message bubbles. Users can choose between applying a single theme across all conversations or setting a unique visual style for individual chats, enabling a more personal and differentiated messaging experience.

One key point is that customizations made on macOS do not sync with other devices, such as the iPhone or web version of WhatsApp. This means that users who wish to maintain consistent themes across platforms must configure them manually on each device. While this provides greater independence and creative flexibility, it also introduces the need for separate adjustments per platform.

The new customization features align with Meta’s ongoing strategy to enhance visual control and user experience within WhatsApp across all devices. Similar personalization tools were previously introduced in the web and mobile versions, and now they are expanding to the desktop environment. This move strengthens Meta’s commitment to creating a unified yet adaptable experience for users, allowing each platform to feel native while maintaining familiar design elements.

To access the new themes on a Mac, users can navigate to Settings > Chats, where the new options are gradually becoming available. However, the rollout is happening in stages, meaning that not all users will see the update immediately. Over the coming weeks, the feature should become accessible to all macOS users running the latest version of the WhatsApp desktop app.
