At IFA 2025, Lenovo is once again pushing the boundaries of PC innovation with a bold proof of concept: the Lenovo Smart Motion Concept. This forward-looking design reimagines the humble laptop stand as a smart, AI-enhanced accessory that can transform everyday workflows.
At the Lenovo event held during IFA, Luca Rossi, President of Lenovo’s Intelligent Devices Group, presented the Lenovo Smart Motion concept as “an intelligent stand that brings motion to your workspace; it uses your laptop’s camera, microphone, and speaker to enable face tracking, voice control, and health tools like sedentary reminders.”
Unlike traditional mechanical stands, Smart Motion Concept integrates three precision motors that enable multi-directional movement. The system adjusts height, tilt, and orientation seamlessly, unlocking ergonomic and accessibility benefits. Whether sitting, standing, or moving around, users can have their laptop automatically follow their position, reducing strain and creating a more natural experience.
What sets the Smart Motion Concept apart is its deep integration with the laptop’s cameras, microphones, and speakers. The stand leverages facial tracking to keep the display aligned with the user’s position, while voice commands provide a hands-free way to adjust angles and orientation. For added versatility, Lenovo has also developed an AI-powered ring that supports gesture-based control, allowing users to rotate or tilt their screen with a simple flick of the hand—ideal for presentations or shared work sessions.
Lenovo has designed the Smart Motion Concept to deliver more than comfort and convenience. By embedding cooling fans into the stand, the system can provide an additional 5–10 watts of thermal headroom, resulting in improved laptop performance. This could be a game-changer for ultra-thin notebooks, where heat management often limits processing power.
Flexibility is another highlight. In theory, the stand could support multiple Lenovo laptops, offering a modular approach that separates complex mechanisms from the laptop itself. This makes it easier to maintain, more durable, and adaptable across product lines.
With this Smart Motion Concept Lenovo isn’t just showcasing a futuristic idea—it’s pointing to a future where accessories play as important a role as the PCs themselves. From ergonomic health features to AI-enhanced controls, the Smart Motion Concept embodies Lenovo’s drive to make computing more fluid, intuitive, and human-centered. While still a proof of concept, it hints at how AI-powered hardware could soon reshape the way we interact with our laptops.
