Huawei has officially introduced the Mate XTs, its second smartphone featuring a three-fold design, during a consumer product event in China. The company described the form factor as futuristic and emphasized that it is gaining momentum among users. The launch follows the 2024 release of the Mate XT, which we awarded as one of the Best of MWC 2025 devices, a mobile phone so interesting that it drew significant attention as the first smartphone with this innovative design.
Pre-orders for the Mate XTs opened on 4 September, with shipments expected to begin by the end of the month. The device is priced from CNY17,999 ($2,522), slightly lower than its predecessor’s launch price of CNY19,999. Huawei has positioned this model as both an upgrade and a more competitively priced option.
The Mate XTs introduces several notable enhancements compared to the original Mate XT. It is powered by the Kirin 9020 chipset, incorporates an improved rear camera system, and runs on Huawei’s latest Harmony OS5. The design features two hinges, enabling users to switch between three display sizes: 6.4 inches, 7.9 inches, and 10.2 inches, depending on how the device is folded.
In terms of hardware, the Mate XTs is equipped with a 50MP main camera and a 5600mAh battery, balancing performance with endurance. Huawei is promoting the device not only as a smartphone but also as a tool for large-screen productivity. Key functions include multi-window multitasking, AI-powered features, and a PC-linked app to extend functionality across devices. The inclusion of a stylus further supports both work-related tasks and entertainment experiences.
On social media platform Weibo, Huawei highlighted the Mate XTs’ “extraordinary design” and emphasized that its three-fold form factor is becoming more accepted in the market. The company positioned the device as part of its vision for the future of mobile technology, where versatility and adaptability are central to user experience.
Alongside the smartphone launch, Huawei provided an update on Harmony OS5 adoption. According to the company, more than 14 million devices are already running the software, which is now available across over 50 hardware products. This demonstrates Huawei’s broader strategy to expand its ecosystem and strengthen integration between hardware and software.
With the Mate XTs, Huawei continues to push the boundaries of foldable smartphone innovation, combining advanced hardware, flexible display technology, and ecosystem connectivity. By offering improved specifications and a slightly reduced price point, the company aims to capture both enthusiasts of cutting-edge design and professionals seeking greater productivity in a mobile device.
