Lenovo is coming to IFA 2025 with an innovative yet practical concept: the ThinkBook VertiFlex Concept. Building on its legacy of experimenting with new form factors, Lenovo is pushing the boundaries of productivity with a notebook PC design that integrates a 14-inch rotatable display.
The VertiFlex Concept utilizes a dual-track hinge system, enabling the screen to pivot seamlessly between traditional landscape mode and a vertical portrait orientation. This design, at just 17.9 mm thin and weighing 1.39 kg, makes it one of the industry’s first ultra-slim rotatable PC display concepts.
Switching to portrait unlocks several use cases for professionals and creatives. Lenovo highlights benefits for coding, document review, and split-screen multitasking, where vertical alignment better matches the natural shape of documents and web pages. According to Lenovo, users can gain up to 45% more usable screen space in certain scenarios, reducing the need for constant scrolling. The concept mirrors a common practice with external monitors—rotating them vertically—but brings that flexibility into a fully portable notebook.
The VertiFlex Concept also integrates Lenovo Smart Connect, the company’s multi-device collaboration software. Originally developed for Motorola phones, Smart Connect now supports both Android and iOS devices. In portrait mode, users can tether their smartphone to the PC, enabling quick file transfers and seamless phone mirroring directly onto the display. With support for full-resolution photos and videos, the feature goes beyond simple screen sharing to deliver a fluid multi-device experience.
While still a proof of concept, VertiFlex Concept demonstrates Lenovo’s ongoing ambition to rethink the PC form factor. From folding and sliding designs to now rotatable screens, Lenovo’s prototypes often preview future features that could make their way into production models. If realized, the ThinkBook VertiFlex could redefine mobile productivity.
For now, the VertiFlex remains a concept, but it’s a compelling glimpse into the future of portable PCs where displays adapt to users—rather than the other way around.
